Volunteer
Make a difference with us
neurobetter is built by volunteers. Whether you can offer a few hours a month or want to take on a regular role, there are meaningful ways to get involved.
We're a small charity with a big mission — improving mental health for neurodivergent people. Every volunteer helps us reach more people, create better resources, and build a community that truly understands neurodivergence.
You don't need professional qualifications to volunteer with us. What matters is that you care about our mission and are willing to learn.
What our volunteers do
We have a range of volunteering opportunities, and we're always open to hearing how you'd like to contribute. Current roles include:
Content and research Help us create accessible, evidence-informed content for our Advice Hub and website. This might involve writing, reviewing, researching, or helping translate complex topics into clear, practical guidance.
Community support Our online community is a safe space for neurodivergent people to connect. Volunteers help with moderation, welcoming new members, and keeping conversations supportive and on track.
Campaigns and communications Support our campaigns like Healthcare For Every Mind, help with social media, or contribute to newsletters and updates.
Administration and operations From data entry to helping organise events, there are behind-the-scenes tasks that keep neurobetter running smoothly.
Future: local services As we grow, we're developing local volunteer roles such as accompanying people to GP appointments, providing advocacy support, and running peer support groups in the community.
What we look for
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. You might be:
- someone with lived experience of neurodivergence or mental health challenges
- a professional wanting to use your skills for good
- a student looking for meaningful experience
- someone who simply believes in what we do
We particularly value people who are patient, reliable, and comfortable working with others in a respectful, boundaried way.
What we provide
We take our duty of care to volunteers seriously. When you join us, you'll receive:
- an induction to neurobetter's mission, values, and ways of working
- training relevant to your role
- regular check-ins and support from a named contact
- a DBS check where required
- a volunteer agreement setting out what you can expect from us, and what we ask in return
- the opportunity to develop skills and gain experience in the charity sector
Our expectations
Volunteering with neurobetter means understanding and respecting our boundaries. We are not a crisis service, and volunteers are never expected to provide therapy, counselling, or emergency support.
We ask that all volunteers:
- follow our safeguarding and data protection policies
- treat everyone with respect and dignity
- communicate openly if something isn't working
- let us know if you need to step back — that's always okay
How to get involved
If you're interested in volunteering, we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch through our contact page and let us know a bit about yourself and what you'd like to do.
There's no pressure and no commitment at the enquiry stage — we'll have an informal conversation to see if there's a good fit for both of us.
